November is a month where we pause to be thankful for all that has come.
We are thankful for YOU -- our GK USA Community. We are thankful for how you have stood by us, rallied behind us, whole-heartedly volunteered and gave of your time and resources to build this sharing and caring community. GK USA would not have helped as many without your support.
As a token of our thanks, we would like to invite you to a FREE thanksgiving gathering.
In collaboration with the Filipino Food Movement, award-winning Chef Nouel Omamalin has graciously agreed to teach us one of his most famous pastries, The Gods Must be Crazy.
Chef Nouel is a Filipino chef who respects traditions and cultures and who loves to re-imagine the pastry world over and over again.
Just as we come together for our Filipino brothers and sisters in their time of need, let us also gather to nurture and strengthen our ties with one another even as we are across different parts of the country. Please join us with your friends and family. All you need to do is to register to receive the link and the recipe. Hope to see you at Chef Noel's kitchen.
Happy Thanksgiving!

About Chef Nouel
After spending 15 years heading various hotel pastry kitchens all over the globe, Chef Nouel Omamalin has carved his own niche in the Middle East as the owner and patissier of The Nifty Chef LLC based in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.
He finished his hotel and management degree at the University of the Philippines. To further his goal to become a full-fledge pastry chef, he took his training and education from various world-renowned places such as the Valrhona School and École Lenotre in France and the formidable French Culinary Institute in NYC, USA, to name a few.
Chef Nouel prides himself as a Heritage Patissier - meaning keeping his Filipino roots alive in his touches, his style is considered a fusion of the Far East and the West. Chef Nouel is also well-regarded in re-imagining the way the Gulf market defines its gastronomical heritage sparking a renewed interest in the humble Arabian cuisine.
About the Filipino Food Movement
The Filipino Food Movement (FFM) was founded to create broad awareness, appreciation, and enhanced investment in Filipino Culinary Arts. In just a few short years, they have gathered national attention in the press, millions of worldwide impressions on social media, and hundreds of passionate and talented individuals who believe Filipino Cuisine deserves its rightful place in the global menu.
FFM believes that the story of culture is programmed into the DNA of each ingredient, no matter where it is grown; each dish, no matter how it has evolved; and each cook, no matter where he or she may come from.
Through an inclusive & collaborative spirit, FFM aims to combat the challenges and negative stigmas facing Filipino cuisine. They aim to shed light on the true value of Filipino Cuisine, and build a better stage upon which to celebrate and elevate the Filipino Food experience. Together, we can influence the rising tide that will lift all vessels, with the hopes of leaving a trail of crumbs in our wake that will inspire, gather, and feed generations to come.
About GK USA's #BeAHungerWarrior Campaign
The improverished communities in the Philippines have endured so much this year, beginning with the explosion of Taal, to surviving lockdown and COVID-19, and most recently, surviving the aftermath of two back-to-back super typhoons.
It is no wonder that many 10 million children have little to no access to full nutritious meals, day in and day out.
Through our disaster food packs and our Kusina ng Kalinga community kitchens, we do all we can to help provide them with meals that can feed their physical as well as their psychological beings. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
While this thanksgiving event is brought to you free of charge, we appreciate any contributions you would like to make in light of the #BeaHungerWarrior cause and we thank you in advance.

Make The Gods Must Be Crazy with award-winning Chef Nouel Omamalin.
FIRST: Get Your Kitchen Ready!
To best prepare for the session, find the list of ingredients you will be needing below:
The Gods Must Be Crazy
1 ¼ cups (160 grams) All-purpose flour
½ tsp (2 grams) Baking powder
½ tsp (3 grams) Baking soda
¼ tsp (2 grams) Salt, kosher/non-iodized
1 cup (200 grams) Drunken dates, drained, pitted and chopped (see
note below)
1 cup (224 grams) Butter, unsalted
1 cup (200 grams) Sugar, raw
1 cup (200 grams) Coconut sugar
3 pcs Eggs
½ cup (70 grams) Pili nut, chopped
½ cup(70 grams) Walnut, chopped
Note: To prepare drunken dates, first pit the dates and chop roughly. Place dates in a bowl or in a container. For every cup of chopped and pitted dates, add 2 Tbsps of Tanduay rum or Don Papo rum. Toss gently to coat every single morsel of date. You may increase the amount of alcohol if you want to lift your spirits up!
Cover the container and store at room temperature overnight. If there is any excess alcohol in the next day drain it off (and drink it!).
NEXT: Mark the date in your calendar.
