A NEW GENERATION OF AGRI-ENTREPRENEURS
Agriculture is becoming a forgotten trade among young Filipinos because it generates low returns and perpetuates the cycle of poverty for farming families.
In 2014, Gawad Kalinga established the School for Experiential and Entrepreneurial Development (SEED) as an education-based response to poverty eradication in the Philippines, a country where only 40% of high school students go for further education.
Because face-to-face teaching is limited due to the pandemic, the SEED 3-month program was born. SEED equips students from low-income families with the skills to be agri-entrepreneurs thru a combination of campus-based and community-based learning. This SEED program offers full scholarship with certificate in Organic Agriculture Productions and training in basic communication, project management, and leadership.
The SEED graduates hope to “raise a generation of agri-entrepreneurs who will end poverty for themselves, their families, their communities, and their country.”
