Gawad Kalinga’s (GK) North Cotabato Productivity Hub is a groundbreaking model for uplifting marginalized farmers through an integrated, community-based approach to end poverty by 2050. The template is rooted in a participatory approach from communities and stakeholders towards shared prosperity. This enables the poor to envision and work towards a future with hope, where there was little or none before. By creating self-sustaining agricultural enterprises, and engaging stakeholders meaningfully, the Hub helps build the capacities of the farmer, their families and communities, including the local government.
Why North Cotabato?
With abundant resources, but limited access to financing and markets, infrastructure, healthcare and education, farmers in North Cotabato face constant challenges. These are intensified by natural disasters and socio-political issues, such as tribal land conflicts, which disrupt essential farming activities. The Productivity Hub bridges these gaps by providing support, training, and relevant programs intended to reverse the effects of years of neglect in addressing these problems.
To create lasting, transformative change, we need more partners to build on what has already been started. With your support, we can expand our impact by training more community leaders and farmers and increasing egg and adlai production through the construction of a milling and processing facility. Scaling up our programs will break down barriers to market access, enabling even greater growth and self-sufficiency for these communities.
In a world where hope is often scarce, your support brings light to North Cotabato.
Help us empower North Cotabato farmers to lead in creating a just, poverty-free Philippines. Join us in this journey of transformation, driven by the spirit of “Bayanihan” (communal unity), and become part of a legacy that empowers, uplifts, and inspires.
Key Accomplishments and Goals
1. Egg and Adlai Production: The Hub has made strides in egg production and the cultivation of adlai, a sustainable crop with higher income potential than corn or rice. Despite market and environmental challenges, the Hub has delivered 80 tons of unmilled adlai to markets across the Philippines, creating new income sources and food security. Based actual interviews with the Adlai farmers, their income per harvest ranges from a low of ₱20,000.00 to as high as Php105,000.00 per harvest cycle.
2. Youth Empowerment: Through the SEED scholarship program, the youth are trained to become agricultural leaders, with classes in business, sustainability, and farm management. By focusing on future generations, we ensure that our vision of a prosperous, sustainable North Cotabato lives on. To date, there are now 13 SEED Graduates. Two of which are now young Adlai farmers.
3. Health and Well-being: Our Kusina ng Kalinga (Care Kitchen) and Yamang Kalusugan (Health and Well-Being for All ) programs have fed 300 children and trained 126 health champions to reduce malnutrition and improve health outcomes. These programs address the community's need for affordable, nutritious food and promoting health and reducing healthcare costs.
4. Savings and Financial Stability: The Hub’s Community Savings Program fosters financial literacy and nurtures a culture of saving, helping families build financial security and resilience for the future.
Your generous gift will go a long way in ending poverty. Together, let us build sharing and caring communities and restore the hope and dignity of the poor in the Philippines.
