READ
Reading for Excellence and Development
READ (formerly ARAL) is Gawad Kalinga’s response to the pressing problem of learning poverty. GK uses this program to bring together local stakeholders such as public school administrators, teachers, volunteers, and parents to focus on poor readers in their community. Adopting the “Marungko” method of teaching, children are given intensive reading sessions outside of school for a minimum period of 3 months. After this period, they are given the standard DepED (Department of Education) assessment test to measure the improvement in their reading and comprehension levels.
Help us end learning poverty by sponsoring an READ Program package which will cover 24-36 hours of reading and comprehension tutorials for 20-30 students in the community. The package will cover teacher allowances , learning materials and meals.
